Hi, my name is Max Oakes.
I like to build things; and I aspire to build something revolutionary.
I recently obtained a Master's of Science in Computer Science from Portland State University, and currently work in the public sector. I enjoy road trips, spicy food, photography, and basically all forms of natural science from geology to astronomy.
In my free time, I like fiddling with code to make fun and useful programs, or using Blender to make neat scenes, landscapes and objects. When not at the computer, I am out taking scenic drives practicing photography to capture the beauty that nature has to offer.

Pokemon StorageI always wanted to have some type of central repository for all of the Pokemon that I collect in the Pokemon game series. This project did just that. I wrote a full C# application that can read from and write to the bytes of emulated save files, converts the Pokemon into a standardized, human-readable format. From there, you can write the Pokemon to a local database, a JSON file, or even to other emulated save files. On top of all that, I created a GUI that shows the Pokemon in a nice, informational list.
Here is the source code of the project.

JWST Image ProcessingA venture into computational imaging. The goal is to automate the pipeline of acquiring James Webb Space Telescope NIRCam imaging data, combining it and displaying a full color RGB image.

Big Data: Known AsteroidsA project for my graduate DBMS course. The goal was to fill a database with data of our choosing and answer questions based on the information in that data. I wrote my own Python script to extract rows from a CSV file to fill a database table.
Here is the presentation of this project.

Cruel SunA addon (mod) written in Java for Minecraft making the sun and moon harmful to all living entities and players. This mod is designed to drastically change the flow of gameplay, and is highly configurable.

ARMA Missions A project that I did while not taking summer PSU classes. The game Arma 3 is a military sim that offers users the ability to create their own complex missions using the SQF scripting language. I have been fiddling around with mission creation for many years, but I wanted to dedicate several weeks to overhaul all of my previous missions and create new ones using algorithms and proper programming techniques that I had learned in school. The handful of missions that I had created utilized concurrent script executions and worked in a multiplayer environment.
Here is the Github link to the missions.

RSA to GNU RadioThis was my undergraduate capstone. The goal was to connect a Tektronix RSA (radio spectrum analyzer) to GNU Radio (a software defined radio). Tekronix had only one piece of software to see waveforms, and nothing for signal processing. This project opened the door for many possibilities for the Tektronix RSA.
Here is our team's final report and presentation we gave to Tektronix.
